The most beautiful 5-star hotels in Saint-Tropez

Historic palaces or intimate boutique hotels, hypnotic sea views or secret gardens under the umbrella pines… More than anywhere else, in Saint-Tropez, luxury can take every conceivable form. The village boasts a dazzling selection of luxury addresses, each embodying a singular vision of hospitality. So you’re sure to find the 5-star hotel in Saint-Tropez that suits your every whim.

1. Villa Belrose, a balcony overlooking the Bay of Saint-Tropez

Villa Belrose is reached by leaving the hustle and bustle of the port and climbing to the heights of Gassin. Set in 9,000 m² of fragrant pine forest, this Saint-Tropez spa hotel and member of Leading Hotels of the World overlooks the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Hypnotic views, tranquility, meticulous service: this off-the-radar address appeals to lovers of demanding but not flashy luxury.

Behind the Florentine silhouette of the building, 40 elegant rooms and suites, dressed in noble materials: marble, wood, fabrics from prestigious houses and each with its own private terrace to admire the breathtaking panorama. Some offer connecting configurations, ideal for family stays. Two swimming pools, including a 300 m² pool lined with deckchairs, provide a relaxing space for a siesta barely disturbed by the song of the cicadas.

At the table, chef Jimmy Coutel delivers a sunny, perfectly executed score: Saint-Pierre meunière and marjoram, roast sea bass with morel mushrooms and smoked eel, desserts with poetic names like Velours de la nuit or Tendresse d'un soir en verger, to be devoured without guilt. At lunchtime, the Méditerranée offers a lighter version of this cuisine d'auteur, to be enjoyed poolside.

The spa relies on Swiss expertise with NIANCE® brand treatments, specialized in high-performance anti-aging. Robert van Straaten has been at the helm of this demanding yet welcoming establishment since 2001, consistently ensuring the comfort of his guests, true to a certain idea of luxury: discreet, controlled, resolutely focused on the art of entertaining and personalization. In an increasingly standardized hotel sector, his warm presence gives Villa Belrose its soul and signature.

Good to know: Villa Belrose also offers sixteen private villas with butler, fully stocked fridge on arrival, baby-sitter... In short, the 5-star hotel in Saint-Tropez that harmoniously reconciles confidentiality and excellent facilities and services.

2. Villa Marie, a family home with a chic, bohemian ambience

A benchmark among 5-star hotels in Saint-Tropez, Villa Marie sets the Bay of Pampelonne ablaze in a single glance. A house of character that is above all a family affair. The story began in Megève in 1981, with Jocelyne and Jean-Louis Sibuet. Since then, Marie and Nicolas have taken up the torch and spread their vision of hospitality with a collection of six hotels from Ménerbes to Saint-Barth.

La Villa Marie

In Saint-Tropez, Villa Marie cultivates a bohemian charm that blends Italian influences and Riviera spirit. Antique furniture, handmade ceramics, warm fabrics: the 45 rooms and suites are all different, but share the same relaxed elegance. A special mention goes to the Pampelonne suite, with its powder pink hues, rosewood, Missoni textiles and balcony overlooking the bay.

The restaurant celebrates simple, carefully prepared Mediterranean cuisine, while in the shade of the pine trees, the lagoon pool blends into the natural rock. And let's not forget the Pure Altitude spa, already emblematic of Megève, and its signature treatments with alpine plants.

3. La Ponche, the cult refuge of old Saint-Tropez

Facing the eponymous creek, this discreet five-star hotel in the old village is much more than just a hotel: it's a mythical refuge where the shadows of Bardot, Vadim and the carefree summers of the 1950s still hang in the air. Far from the glitz and glamour of neighboring addresses, La Ponche cultivates a hushed elegance. No ostentatious gilding or infinity pool here, but 21 rooms, 5 suites and 3 apartments refurbished with refinement by interior designer Fabrizio Casiraghi, in a palette of natural hues: sandy beige, midnight blue, polished brass, and a few touches of deep velvet.

At dinnertime, linger on the shaded terrace, eyes on the moored pointus, savoring the sunny cuisine of chef Thomas Danigo (also at the helm of Galanga at the Monsieur George hotel in Paris). Tropézienne salad and grilled tuna belly, wild swordfish and a collection of colorful chard: a fresh, elegant Provençal score with no false notes. In the evening, the piano bar distills its hushed chords around inspired cocktails, while in the early morning, the early birds dive from the private pontoon. Down below, a confidential spa welcomes guests in a cocoon of silence, with a La Mer treatment menu and breathing and yoga classes. Out of season, the 5-star Saint-Tropez resort even offers writing retreats and a literary prize.

Coming to La Ponche is like coming home: to rediscover a lost gentleness, a forgotten rhythm, a Saint-Tropez that only insiders still know. The suspended calm of the surrounding alleyways, the echo of Tropezian memories between the whitewashed walls, and that discreet luxury that doesn't seek to seduce, but to stay.

4. Hôtel de Paris, the 5-star rooftop hotel in the heart of Saint-Tropez

As any Tropezian will tell you, getting around in Bardot's hometown in summer is a real obstacle course. Unless you have the good idea of putting down your bags at the Hôtel de Paris. Opened in 1931, this Saint-Tropez landmark was the very first 5-star establishment in the village. After a period of dormancy, it was reborn in 2013 under the leadership of architect François Vieillecroze and decorator Sybille de Margerie, and today this classic Saint-Tropez hotel ticks all the boxes for a stay right in the center of town, without the need for a car or shuttle. Located on Place Blanqui, opposite the gendarmerie immortalized by Louis de Funès, it's just a five-minute walk from the port

Inside, 90 rooms and suites combine noble materials, sixties touches and flawless comfort. Some open onto the rooftops of the old town, while others have a small balcony overlooking the tree-lined patio where breakfast is served, or the Villa Chanel opposite. The 130 m² presidential suite is spread over two levels, with terrace, Jacuzzi, panoramic view, wine cellar, dressing room and photos annotated by Brigitte Bardot.

It's impossible to talk about the Hôtel de Paris without talking about art. The Dray family, owners of the property, have invested heavily in the establishment, instilling it with a genuine artistic DNA. Right from the atrium, the tone is set: Giacometti-like silhouettes, temporary exhibitions by Galeries Bartoux, shoals of fish by photographer Patrick Rougereau, and a spectacular chandelier composed of 3,500 ivory aluminum petals. If you look up, you'll see one of the house's star attractions: the swimming pool suspended 15 metres above the ground.

If there were another good reason to choose the Hôtel de Paris as a base for a weekend in Saint-Tropez, it would be its rooftop swimming pool, where you can sip a cocktail in front of the setting sun, brunch to music or enjoy jazz concerts under the stars.

Another point of pride: the Clarins spa, present since the opening, a leading French brand perfectly aligned with the spirit of the place.

5. Airelles Château de la Messardière, billionaires' HQ on the Riviera

Clinging to the heights of Saint-Tropez, facing the vineyards of Ramatuelle and the bay of Pampelonne, Château de La Messardière was the first palace in Saint-Tropez, along with the Byblos, joined in 2019 by Cheval Blanc.

Nestled in a 13-hectare park planted with maritime pines, cypresses and jasmine, this 19th-century residence was originally a wedding gift from a cognac merchant to his beloved daughter. Revived in 1989 under the guidance of Jean-Claude Rochette, architect for the Monuments Historiques, the château will join the Airelles collection in 2019, offering 86 rooms and suites, designed as refuges of timeless elegance.

A gastronomic mecca, Château de la Messardière brings together three major figures on the international culinary scene: Jean-François Piège, Nobu Matsuhisa and, on the sweet side, Cédric Grolet. This exceptional trio is at the helm of La Messardière's various restaurants, recognized as some of the finest in Saint-Tropez. At Tables du Jardin, set in the estate's vegetable garden, Jean-François Piège revisits Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, generous and local.

The Palladio pays homage to Italy in a hushed setting, while the Matsuhisa terrace blends Peruvian flavors with Japanese influences, with a breathtaking view. And for lunches with your feet in the sand, head for Jardin Tropezina, the flower-filled beach restaurant in Pampelonne.

6. Lou Pinet, a boutique hotel with character just a stone's throw from the center of town

Designed by Maisons Pariente (Le Coucou in Méribel, Crillon le Brave in Provence), Lou Pinet is a 5-star boutique hotel setting up in a secluded residential area.

The spirit? A revisited southern villa, colorful and intimate. Several bastides in soft hues house 34 rooms and 2 suites, decorated by Charles Zana with a mix of wood, washed linen, ceramics and graphic motifs. The style is sunny and Mediterranean, with small terraces amid the foliage or balconies overlooking the pool.

At the heart of the garden, the pool is extended by a bar lit by lanterns at nightfall. On the dining side, guests can choose between the ever-excellent BeefBar by Riccardo Giraudi and La Terrasse, perfect during the day for grilled meats and sun-dried vegetables. Tucked away in the garden, a rock-cut micro spa offers Tata Harper rituals, the American brand with botanical active ingredients.
