Weekend in Megève: instructions for use
At the gateway to Mont Blanc, Megève has been the chicest resort in Haute-Savoie for over a century. Its secrets? 228 slopes and an incomparably refined range of accommodation. Yonder has traced them for you.

As the winter season gets underway, so do the weekends in the mountains for a breath of fresh air. Megève is a leading destination for winter sports enthusiasts, with a host of prestigious addresses where you can unwind after a day on the slopes. “Invented in the Roaring Twenties by Noémie de Rothschild to compete with its Swiss rival, St Moritz, the Haute-Savoie resort next to Mont d’Arbois and Mont Joly was an instant hit with the masses, who made it their winter resort of choice. Without sacrificing its original charm or authenticity, Megève has established itself as an Alpine exception… and a benchmark for those seeking the ultimate in comfort. Weekend in Megève: instructions for use.

The call of the slopes is felt as soon as you set foot in Megève, and your eyes are drawn to the snow-covered slopes that surround it like a jewel box. Let’s put off putting on our skis, however, as we’ll need to pack our bags..
Where to stay in Megève: Le Refuge Chez La Tante - Mont d'Arbois
Overlooking the valley at an altitude of 1850 meters, Le Refuge Chez La Tante actually seems to be in 7th heaven, so close is it to the stars. Nestled in the heights of Mont d'Arbois, this Megève hotel is only accessible by the Alpin, the Bettex gondola (between 9am and 4.30pm). Its privileged location at the heart of the Saint-Gervais ski area means guests can be on the slopes from dawn until closing time.

In the evening, you can enjoy a tête-à-tête with Mont Blanc, in a cosy quietness and in very small groups, as only 20 rooms and suites are available in this luxury hotel in Megève, all decked out in light wood, cultivating a very upmarket chalet spirit!

Alpine ambience but Scandinavian design; rough woods, plaids, cushions and thick fabrics create an instantly cozy atmosphere, where you'll enjoy curling up after a day on the boards, a session at the hotel spa in the French Alps or simply contemplating the panorama from the window or balcony.

When you think of a mountain refuge, you think of traditional recipes and high-altitude dishes, and this establishment is no exception! Chez La Tante, one of our favorite Megève restaurants, revisits Alpine fundamentals in a spirit of gourmet generosity (simmered dishes, grilled meats...) without neglecting the spectacular: an open-air barbecue offers the pleasure of whetting your appetite as you follow the work in progress of the flame. While Chez La Tante's dining room is open to skiers at lunchtime, in the evening it becomes a cosy cocoon for the hotel's exclusive guests, who enjoy a dinner of recipes lovingly cooked over a wood fire. And extend the evening in the Bar du Refuge, a cosy space where you can enjoy a mocktail or cocktail, hot drink or nectar of your choice. Isn't this the closest you'll ever get to paradise?

Getting there
The most convenient way to get to Megève is by train: from Paris Gare de Lyon: 11 trains a day to Sallanches-Combloux-Megève (approx. 4h50). The village is 13 km from the station, so count on a 25-minute drive by cab or rental car for greater mobility.
There are also 11 daily trips to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains (same duration).
From the peaks... to the windows. Let's go for a shopping session
Once back down from the Mont d'Arbois and the slopes (and its little cloud), we can't resist the temptation to wander the shopping streets of Megève. In addition to the local specialities available directly from producers, such as reblochon, tomme, raclette, faisselles and the delicious charcuterie offered by the Coopérative fruitière en Val d'Arly Savoie Mont Blanc, there are also the indispensable sporting goods boutiques, as well as the finest labels from the Parisian Golden Triangle. The must-see, however, is Maison Aallard, which celebrates its first century of existence in 2026. Founded by master tailor Armand Allard, future co-inventor of the ski spindle, this dynasty perpetuates elegance and refinement made in Megève.

Lunch under the stars: La Table de L'Alpaga
Arriving from the Cannes hotel Le Martinez in 2022 to take charge of the kitchens at La Table de L'Alpaga, Isérois Alexandre Baule wasted no time in showcasing his talent: in 2023, he was awarded his first star. Attentive to the right perception of flavors, this young chef likes to remind his guests of the fundamentals; thus he begins their journey with four mouthfuls reinterpreting the primary elements (air, earth, water, fire) according to the seasons.

Alexandre Baule is a tireless explorer of local resources (particularly plants), and an ardent defender of cheese. His blind menus banish repetition: permanent renewal is the horizon... and the antechamber to excellence. An experience for all the senses.

The restaurant shouldn't blind us to the fact that it's nestled in the heart of L'Alpaga, a 5-star hotel belonging to the Beaumier collection of luxury boutique hotels. Comprising 10 chalets, some of which are private, L'Alpaga is a small hamlet dedicated to comfort and relaxation. Designed by Charles & Co, the architecture preserves the existing authenticity, developing its "cocooning" potential in direct contact with nature. Rooms and suites bathed in light, where wood triumphs; outdoor wellness facilities (heated pool, Swedish bath) or chalet-style (hammam). Not forgetting the magnificent underground spa, with Maison Caulières and Holidermie treatments.

A cultural weekend in Megève
Let's continue our stroll through the streets with the arts as our compass. Megève is home to a number of contemporary galleries, such as Galerie Daltra, which Jeanne-Hortense Rousseau has been running for several years. In this welcoming place where photography, in all its prodigious diversity, has found an attentive eye and urban art a fervent supporter, visitors will always find it worthwhile to stop off for a weekend in Megève.

And when the galleries are closed, just stroll along Square Baronne de Rothschild or Place de la Mairie in Megève to admire the monumental sculptures of local celebrity Pierre Margara. For the whole of 2026, Margara's work will be on show at the Palais Megève. It's impossible to overlook this essential multi-modal venue, which comprises several spaces, including an auditorium, a media library and a complete sports complex.
Other great places to stay...
A weekend in Megève is definitely too short to try them all. But if you feel like extending your stay, or even repeating the experience during the winter or in fine weather, here are a few Megève must-sees..
Intimate: Les Chalets du Mont d'Arbois
This 5-star property in the Les Petites Maisons collection, created by Beyond Places, comprises three ultra-luxury chalets for rent in Megève. Could its geographical position, overlooking the village, be a metaphor? Indeed, Les Chalets du Mont d'Arbois seems intent on elevating the art of hospitality and service in this enchanting setting. Spacious rooms and suites that make you want to snuggle up under a quilt; Susanne Kaufmann's mountain hotel spa with heated indoor and outdoor pools, 24-hour concierge service..

Another good reason to linger is Héritage, the bistronomic table at Les Chalets du Mont d'Arbois, where Marc-Henri Mazure officiates. Having worked for Anne-Sophie Pic in Valence and "neighbor" Marc Veyrat, the chef delights in exalting the gourmet soul of Alpine terroirs, sublimating delicate products (Savoy saffron, fario trout...) or rustic ones (beaufort) and happily revisiting the chapter on sauces, juices, infusions and broths. It's a gastronomic heritage he's bringing to fruition...and an address not to be forgotten. Please note that only 25 covers can be guaranteed for each service, so reservations are advisable.

Cosy: the Lodge Park
Located in the heart of the village, just a three-minute walk from the ski lifts, the Lodge Park is one of the highlights of the Maisons et Hôtels Sibuet group. The Lodge Park succeeds in being both a convivial place to live and an intimate haven; a rendezvous for gourmets (with its famous Beef Lodge meat restaurant) as well as a popular spot for those nostalgic for a "club" atmosphere (with its curiosity cabinet-style bar) and eager to extend the evening in front of the soothing blaze of an open fire. The real talent of the Lodge Park lies in its ability to anticipate every desire, from brunch to tea-time and from lunch to the wellness area of its spa. You'd almost forget there are snow-covered slopes outside..

Kids friendly: Les Fermes de Marie
The Sibuet family's big brother, Les Fermes de Marie is where they began their rise to prominence in 1989. And while we're on the subject of families, this is the ideal address for a family weekend in the Alps. In addition to the invariable features of the "Sibuet collection", a blend of rustic luxury and enveloping comfort, Les Fermes de Marie rivals in its attention to detail and thoughtful proposals to welcome young guests and their parents. In addition to connecting rooms, junior suites and chalets for rent in the Alps can accommodate tribes of up to 10 people, while a Kids Club is nestled in a 2-hectare park.
