A weekend in Deauville, 3 days by the sea
Set on the banks of the Côte Fleurie, a weekend in Deauville is often the best excuse for Parisians to get out of town. For 3 iodized days, the chic resort in southern Normandy showcases its cultural assets and beautiful addresses where you can relax while breathing in the sea spray.

Everyone knows Deauville, or at least everyone thinks they do. But the Normandy town, lying on a beautiful beach in the English Channel, is well worth a visit, with its narrow streets, grand villas and postcard-perfect views. Along with neighboring Trouville, it hides a number of fine addresses that can give substance to a relaxing weekend by the sea. From the alleys of its farmers’ market to the Franciscaines convent, via the Casino Barrière or the Spa at the Hôtel Royal, here are a few suggestions to make your 3 days in Deauville a comfortable, hedonistic experience, without ever losing sight of this wide-open sea.

Friday - Day 1
3 pm- Packing your bags at Le Normandy
After just two hours' drive from Paris, the landscape gives way to the iodized air of the sea. Le Normandy, a veritable architectural gem, stands proudly in the heart of Deauville, just a stone's throw from the Palais des Congrès and the famous beach. Inaugurated in 1912, this emblematic hotel is the standard-bearer of the Barrière group in the Normandy town, embodying a skilful blend of heritage and timeless elegance. With its majestic half-timbered manor house look, it impresses as much with its exterior silhouette as with its interior, imbued with a refined Anglo-Norman atmosphere.

The 271 rooms and suites, sumptuously dressed in toile de Jouy, reflect a unique art of living and have welcomed many iconic figures from the seventh art, notably during the Deauville American Film Festival. The hotel has modernized its spaces while preserving the charm of its heyday. Among the many assets of the 5-star hotel in Normandy, the kids club Le Studio by Petit VIP occupies a place of choice, offering a creative universe dedicated to children aged 4 to 12. Designed to awaken their curiosity and imagination, this club organizes artistic workshops inspired by the world of art and cinema, enabling the youngest guests to learn about different forms of creation while having fun. This colorful, stimulating space becomes a true haven for families, where children can play and learn while parents enjoy the hotel's many upscale amenities.

6:30 pm - Swim in Le Normandy's indoor pool
Once you've settled into your seaside hotel, it's the perfect time to indulge in a moment of relaxation to get your weekend in Deauville off to a good start. The hotel's Diane Barrière spa features a sauna, hammam, fitness area and, above all, a beautiful indoor swimming pool, heated to 28°C. Whatever the season, this is the perfect place to take a dip under the glass roof and among the characteristic green half-timbering.

Saturday - Day 2
10 am - Lighting up the aisles of the Deauville market
Mid-morning, after breakfast at Le Normandy, head downtown to the Deauville market, just a five-minute walk from the marina. Under beautiful half-timbered halls, local producers sell their fruit and vegetables on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7am to 1:30pm. With basket in hand or senses simply alert, stroll down the aisles to breathe in the scent of wild apples or admire the fresh fish just brought in from the boat.

11:30 am - Walking in the sun on the mythical Planches
After filling up on colors and scents, it's off to the beach for the rest of our Deauville weekend: just a few blocks away, the Planches, a long wooden-paved promenade that stretches along the sand for almost 700 meters. It offers a breath of fresh sea air, with the sea on one side and 450 bathing cabins on the other, each named after a film star. The site will be listed as a historic monument in 2019.
1 pm - Lunch at Ciro's
At Ciro's, fish is king. This Deauville restaurant magnifies seafood, which you can enjoy in a chic setting on the Planches. Raw and cooked dishes change daily according to the fish market's arrivals, although bouillabaisse and sole meunière are always on the menu. A choice restaurant, ideal for a relaxed gastronomic break at lunchtime.

3 pm - Visit the former Franciscan Convent
In the afternoon, return to town. On Avenue de la République, the former Franciscan convent dates back to 1876. Deserted by the nuns in 2012, it was acquired by the town council, who turned it into "Les Franciscaines", a remarkable cultural center. 6,200 square meters are devoted to art and culture, with exhibitions of paintings and photography, as well as literary workshops and performances. The building was renovated by Alain Moatti, to create a contemporary look that preserves its original neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque style. Inaugurated in 2021, this convent of a new age is now Deauville's cultural beacon.

5 pm - Treat yourself to the Diane Barrière Spa at Royal Deauville
The Barrière group is well established in Deauville with its three spa hotels, between which guests can navigate at their leisure thanks to free shuttles, as well as the casino. To take advantage, head for Le Royal, set back from the beach but still facing the waterfront. Its Diane Barrière spa is a bubble of serenity where you can take a break at the end of the day. The experience of a facial or body treatment here is remarkable, thanks to the Biologique Recherche diagnosis that has been proving its worth for many years. As for products from the Algologie marine cosmetics brand, they allow you to soak up marine active ingredients just as effective as sea spray from the Côte Fleurie or a thalassotherapy treatment.

8 pm - Dinner at NOTO
To round off a weekend in Deauville rich in experiences, all that's left to do is get your feet under the table. The NOTO restaurant in the Barrière casino boasts a menu with clear Italian influences. Emilio Giagnoni concocts dishes from the Botte region, using only seasonal produce. Pasta takes pride of place: tagliolini with fresh truffles, paccheri with sea bass and cherry tomatoes or scialatielli with lobster, followed by sea bream, tuna or sole with capers and lemon. This young Sardinian chef is fortunate enough to work in an elegant setting that even boasts an outdoor terrace for summer evenings.

Sunday - Day 3
10 am - Play 18 holes on L'Hôtel du Golf greens
To better understand Deauville, it's a good idea to get some perspective and take a tour of the Normandy countryside. L'Hôtel du Golf is fortunate to be located in a green setting in the commune of Saint-Arnoult. This four-star hotel has the look and feel of a large Norman house, yet is only a few minutes from Les Planches. Outdoor pool, MyBlend spa, and, as the name suggests, the chance to be surrounded by a 70-hectare golf course, renowned as one of the finest in France. Since 1929, people have been coming to this course to play with breathtaking sea views. There's also an Academy where beginners can practise or perfect their skills in a verdant setting so close to the coast.

1 pm - Brunch at the Belle Époque
Back in town for lunch. Or rather brunch. Le Normandy has a reputation that extends beyond the region's borders. Every Sunday, the Belle Époque restaurant offers a "Grand Brunch", which can be washed down with champagne. Oysters and seafood, salmon en croûte, ham on the bone cut to order, lemon tarts or chocolate fountains... everything you need for a memorable meal between the chandeliers and mirrors of the main dining room, or on the outdoor terrace in summer, to take advantage of the mild climate as soon as the sun comes out.

3 pm - Last seaside stroll on Trouville beach
Before leaving the Côte Fleurie, a trip to Trouville-sur-Mer is in order. Deauville's twin on the opposite bank of the Touques also boasts a string of grand Anglo-Norman villas facing the sea. There's an old-fashioned, 19th-century charm here, and it's nice to soak up a few hours of it before heading home. It's enough to collect a few more images of the open sea to round off an enchanting 3-day weekend in Deauville, just two hours from the capital.
