If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, don’t miss out: the editorial team will guide you through the addresses that flirt with the crystal-clear waters of Lake Geneva, for a stay that’s as chic as it is rejuvenating. An overview of the finest hotels on the shores of Lake Geneva.
1. Hôtel Royal- Evian Resort | A palace overlooking Lake Geneva
The pitch? Majestically towering over Lake Geneva, the Hôtel Royal is not only the flagship of the Evian Resort complex, but also one of the region's most dazzling hotel treasures. Built in 1909 for King Edward VII, who died before being able to stay there, the hotel quickly became the destination of choice for celebrities and royalty alike, who came to enjoy the benefits of Evian's waters. Despite a major fire in 1958, the Royal has preserved its original architecture, a cross between Art Deco and Art Nouveau, entirely renovated in 2015 under the guidance of interior designer François Champsaur and François Chatillon, chief architect of historic monuments. In 2016, the hotel was awarded the Palace distinction.
The rooms? Accommodation at the Royal is divided into several categories: rooms, suites, experiential suites and the Royal Suite, which boasts a 60m2 private terrace with a panoramic view of Lake Geneva. Facing either the lake or the park, all boast a refined decor, both luminous and cosy, enhanced by touches of bright color and graphic-print carpets.

Gastronomy? After sipping a cocktail in the stunning Belle Époque décor of the hotel bar, head to Les Fresques, a Michelin-starred restaurant, for a gastronomic experience worthy of the hotel's prestige. Beneath the frescoes painted by Gustave Louis Jaulmes almost a century ago, chef Yohan Fatela delivers an impressive culinary score, featuring not only regional products, but only the very best. The chef gives pride of place to local produce.
Wellness? After a colossal renovation, the Royal Evian spa has reopened its doors to offer customers an enhanced experience, a journey redesigned from A to Z around the theme of the water cycle. This "V2" marks the palace's determination to remain firmly rooted in its local roots, while at the same time offering updated facilities worthy of its status. The new evian® Spa, the first of its kind in Europe, extends over 1,700 m² and features two distinct areas, one reserved for treatments, the other for the aquatic section. The curvaceous swimming pool, flanked by deckchairs overlooking the lake, is accompanied by a giant Jacuzzi-style outdoor pool where you can splash around while admiring the scenery, captured by the famous "môle du lac", that feeling of well-being that invades travellers staying on the shores of Lake Geneva. On the treatment side, immersive lounges projecting videos retracing the immutable cycle of water or adorned with ancient frescoes, cocoon cabins named after Alpine peaks host signature protocols performed by therapists with golden hands, true experts with years of experience. If there was ever a reason to stay at this iconic palace, this is it: we've come full circle.
