1. Domaine de la Bretesche

At the gateway to Brittany, a stone's throw from a castle reflected in a mirror of water like a scene from a fairy tale, the Domaine de la Bretesche offers a bucolic retreat. The real life of a contemporary lord of the manor. Perfect for both an introspective break and a breath of fresh air with the family, where every detail of the surrounding nature feeds the romantic dreams of young and old alike. Here, the 15th century flirts unabashedly with the cozy comfort of Relais & Châteaux-approved outbuildings, crowned with 5 stars.

Transformed into rooms, suites, and villas—located in the main hotel building, the former sheepfold, or the elegant "Régisseur" and "Tilleul" residences—these nests, regardless of their category, offer wake-up calls with views of the golf course or the slate roofs of the Cour Carrée and its century-old lime tree. The atmosphere? That of a very accomplished family home, where tapestries, bed linen, and decorative details convey a certain idea of the countryside in haute couture style.

The tone is set from breakfast onwards, enjoyed in bed or on the white tablecloths of Le Montaigu, while the mist rises from the pond and reveals the castle towers. At lunchtime and at nightfall, the kitchen, under the leadership of chef Filipe Silvestre, plays the local tune and magnifies the Breton terroir. The bonus? A permaculture vegetable garden whose fruits and vegetables are sublimated into graphic plates, echoing the clean lines of the landscape.

Because La Bretesche is not just a setting: it is an open-air playground. Golfers tee off on the 18 holes that wind between water and undergrowth, walkers happily lose themselves on the estate's trails, and the more contemplative settle on the terrace to simply watch the light glide over the stones.

The spa—in partnership with Omnisens and Cinq Mondes—nestled in one of the wings, extends this timeless interlude. Before or after a treatment, a few strokes in the pool or a massage, the light-filled glass roof offers a space to let go.

3. Hôtel Barrière Le Grand Hôtel Dinard

What's the hotel like? Dinard's first hotel, built in 1858, Le Grand Hôtel overlooks the sea, just a stone's throw from the famous Clair de lune promenade, and has seen all the world's beautiful people pass through its salons! This legendary 5-star hotel, a member of Leading Hotels of the World, was acquired by the Barrière group some twenty years ago. Behind granite walls embellished with white stone, the new decor by Alexandre Danan features 86 rooms and 5 suites and public areas in shades of green, blue and sand, punctuated by Second Empire furniture in a nod to the hotel's inaugural year. In the George V restaurant, chef Wilfried Lacaille's menu features local and seafood products: pan-fried squid, red tuna tartare, and a competition Kouign amann. All this while admiring the view of the bay and the ramparts of the city of Saint-Malo, a breathtaking sight at sunset.

At the 333 Café, with its decor inspired by the film "The Vikings," shot near Dinard in 1957, a simple menu offers Cancale oysters, a variety of platters, a cheese platter... Don't miss the 333 cocktail, a favorite of Kirk Douglas during his stay for the filming of "The Vikings."

What's the spa like? The Shiseido spa at the Grand Hôtel Dinard offers a wellness experience inspired by Japanese rituals, based on the brand's ancestral philosophy. Each treatment is based on the exclusive "Qi" method and expert techniques designed to restore balance, stimulate vitality, and meet specific needs: hydration, radiance, firmness, or anti-aging. Practitioners personalize each ritual, from sculpting massages to holistic ceremonies and premium treatments such as the Legendary Enmei. The heated indoor pool, hammam, sauna, and fitness room complete the experience. The elegant and secluded relaxation areas extend the escape. Non-residents can also enjoy this interlude by reservation.

An open-air green setting with Plexiglas fountains and a plant wall, the peaceful patio is a real eye-catcher before heading to the Table de Balthazar, where chef Benjamin Jourdren, who has worked in a number of Michelin-starred establishments, creates a cuisine that's "simple, but not simplistic", with a strong feel for vegetables, flavor combinations and low-temperature cooking. The only five-star hotel in the Breton capital, under the MGallery banner, features rooms with a variety of eclectic layouts and decorations, including two top-floor Junior Suites with 25 m² terraces overlooking the rooftops of Rennes. We're delighted with the comfort and quality of MGallery bedding.

The spa's mineral decor features cascading showers, bubble baths and loungers, sauna, hammam and treatment cabins with large portholes, like a connection with the surrounding marine environment. Thai, Kobido, Balinese, hot stone, Taoist... over twenty massages from around the world are offered by the team of practitioners, including of course a signature massage, the Odyssée Miramar, a personalized ritual with vegetable oils. A very relaxing experience, combining a scrub at the scrub bar to eliminate dead skin cells, followed by a soothing body wrap. On the face side, treatments are provided with cutting-edge products (notably anti-aging) from Skinceuticals, the benchmark medispa brand in the USA, and the Thalgo range, renowned for over 50 years for its revitalizing marine protocols and formulas bursting with active ingredients from the sea. A personalized skin diagnosis will precede a customized treatment.

6. La Grée des Landes, Yves Rocher 4-star spa eco-hotel, La Gacilly

What's the hotel like? When Yves Rocher, founder of the famous eponymous beauty brand, created this eco-hotel on his native land in 2009, the concept caused a sensation. A haven of tranquillity entirely turned towards nature, an open-air art gallery, a biodiversity paradise populated by foxes, badgers, rabbits, 48 species of birds..., it was the first 100% eco-designed hotel, now certified High Environmental Quality, with Green Globe and European Ecolabel labels. Green roofs, photovoltaic panels, wood-fired boilers, natural coatings, filtering gardens... this address is a benchmark. In the spirit of a "maison d'hôte", cultivating the art of taking one's time and recharging one's batteries as the seasons go by, this 4-star hotel houses soothing rooms turned towards nature with their beautiful terraces, plant-filled suites in the heart of the park, and even a perched hut for an exclusive chic robinsonnade. Fabien Manzoni, chef of the Les Jardins Sauvages gourmet restaurant, has been awarded a Michelin green star for his daily commitment to a virtuous approach to cooking. He draws inspiration from the surrounding nature and the in-house kitchen garden to create seasonal, organic, locavore cuisine with a focus on plants.

What's the spa like? Much more than a cosmetic experience, it's a unique sensory interlude. An infinity pool overlooking the horizon, a hammam, a flower bath, infusions... are all preludes to the Grands Rituels de Beauté, lasting almost two hours, dedicated to the whole body, for deep relaxation. From June to September, a hut perched in a century-old cypress tree is the setting for protocols specially designed for this weightless bubble of well-being. Here, wellness finds a formidable field of expression, with classes in yoga, pilates, sophrology..
