The Best 5-Star Resorts & Hotels in Mauritius

A selection of the most beautiful 5-star hotels in Mauritius—from luxury resorts to intimate hotels and trendy eco-lodges—to help you explore the island and its wonders.

It can be hard to choose among the 5-star hotels and luxury resorts that dot Mauritius. Nestled in the heart of the Indian Ocean, the island is an idyllic destination of incredibly untamed beauty. Renowned for its turquoise lagoons and idyllic beaches dotted with volcanic rocks, this island nation is brimming with accommodations, each as beautiful as the next. Here are our favorite 5-star hotels and resorts in Mauritius—the perfect base camps before you decide what to do in Mauritius.

1. Constance Prince Maurice, a 5-star resort in northeastern Mauritius

The Constance Prince Maurice is the jewel in the crown of the Constance Hotels & Resorts group in Mauritius. It is ideally located on the island’s northeast coast—renowned for its secluded beaches—within a vast 60-hectare estate featuring lush tropical vegetation. This luxury hotel features 76 suites and 13 thatched-roof villas built on stilts, dotted among white-sand beaches and mangroves. Three bars and three restaurants will delight gourmets and connoisseurs, who will appreciate the wine cellar housing 25,000 bottles. Mauritian cuisine, Asian influences, and cocktails accompanied by jazz music at the Laguna Bar—this 5-star hotel in Mauritius, where relaxation is the order of the day, comes alive come evening. Le Barachois, the island’s only floating restaurant, specializes in seafood.

An enchanting stay with views of the Indian Ocean from the hotel’s many terraces and verandas—this Mauritian hotel with a spa features two magnificent outdoor pools and a private beach where you can cool off, offering unparalleled moments of relaxation. A spa with a heated pool and personalized Sisley treatments completes this heavenly experience, set outdoors in a garden.

Golf: Over the past twenty years or so, Mauritius has become a true golf destination. The resort features two world-class 18-hole courses. The Legend (at the Constance Belle Mare Plage hotel), designed by South African Hugh Balochi, is a rather technical par-72 course with numerous water hazards, while the Links, designed by Peter Allis and Rodney Wright, is a slightly less technical par-71 course. Located less than 5 minutes from the Constance Prince Maurice, these two courses welcome hotel guests with unlimited green fees.

Early in the morning, guests enjoy breakfast in a cabin perched in a badamier tree, overlooking the ocean, before heading to Maison LUX*, a Milan-inspired café-bar where, as the hours pass, you can move from a macchiato to a well-chilled Spritz, then from a Negroni to a selection of exquisite pastries. 3. La Maison 20 Degrés Sud, the only 5-star Relais & Châteaux hotel in Mauritius

In Mauritius, there is no shortage of hotels with several hundred rooms—so-called “large-scale” properties. La Maison 20 Degrés Sud operates on a different scale. Tucked away between Grand Baie and Pointe aux Canonniers, this property has just 36 rooms and suites. This scale is rare enough that it is now the island’s only Relais & Châteaux property and the only 5-star hotel in Mauritius with fewer than fifty rooms. Reserved for adults and teenagers over the age of twelve, it has more of the feel of a grand country house than that of a resort.

La Maison 20 Degrés

La Maison 20 Degrés Sud is just a few minutes away from the bustling atmosphere of Grand Baie. Yet, once you pass through the gate, the setting changes completely. Behind the white verandas and thatched roofs, this former colonial-inspired residence overlooks a peaceful lagoon where a few boats anchor in the shelter of the coral reef.

What are the rooms like? La Maison features 36 rooms and suites: 19 “Charme” rooms, 10 beachfront rooms, two suites, four “Austral” suites, and one “Secret Suite.” The “Charme” rooms measure at least 25 m² and feature a private terrace overlooking the pool or garden. The oceanfront rooms range from 35 to 50 m², offer ocean views, and feature a private terrace. The two suites, each at least 50 m², include a living room, a bathtub, and a jacuzzi. The more spacious Austral Suites range from 80 to 100 m²; those on the ground floor have a private pool, while those on the upper floor feature a jacuzzi. The Secret Suite, meanwhile, features 108 m² of interior space, a 100 m² private garden, and an eight-meter-long pool.

Dining options. The dining offerings are organized around several options. L’Atlas, the main restaurant seating 65 guests, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner featuring international cuisine infused with Mauritian flavors. For a more exclusive experience, the Wine Salon seats 18 guests for a shared menu and wine pairings. Even more intimate, the chef’s table, located in the kitchen, offers a five-course menu for a handful of guests. The culinary experience not to be missed is the gourmet cruise aboard the Lady Lisbeth. Billed as the oldest motorboat still in operation in Mauritius, this historic vessel accommodates just eight passengers for a five-course dinner in Grand Baie Bay at sunset.

We love: What sets La Maison 20 Degrés Sud apart from other 5-star hotels in Mauritius is its limited capacity. This deliberate choice significantly enhances the guest experience, prioritizing tranquility, personalized service, and an authentic atmosphere. The spa follows the same philosophy: just three treatment rooms, plus a hammam, a sauna, a jacuzzi, and a pool surrounded by tropical vegetation.
