The best and most beautiful hotels in Mauritius

At the foot of Morne Brabant, on Île aux Cerfs or further north towards Grande Baie, Mauritius is home to a number of luxury resorts, charming hotels and ecolodges nestled between forest and beach.

The finest design, 5-star and resort hotels in Mauritius are scattered along the island’s coasts, on the edge of heavenly beaches and in palm groves worthy of the most beautiful postcards. Here is our selection of the finest establishments in Mauritius, with our favorite addresses at the top of the page, followed by the finest hotels in Mauritius by geographical area.

1. Constance Prince Maurice, luxury hotel in Mauritius

The concept? The site alone is a success. Imagine a 60-hectare tropical park on the island's east coast, cooled by the trade winds. The lagoon, sheltered from the prevailing winds, guarantees calm and safety. Facing a beautiful beach of fine sand, the gradation of blues of a sea as gentle as a caress - a setting that bears the signature of the famous Mauritian architect Jean-Marc Eynaud, who has invented a very Asian hotel formula.

The configuration of this luxury hotel in Mauritius, on a peninsula between the lagoon and a mangrove-fringed lagoon, has allowed us to design a universe that is both elegant and sophisticated, full of romantic evocations. Nature and water, space and light: at the Constance Prince Maurice, guests enjoy a dream setting. The palm-roofed bungalows are scattered along the beachfront or on stilts overlooking the lagoon.

What are the 89 rooms like? No rooms here, just suites and villas... 76 of the suites are located on the beachfront with lagoon views, in the tropical garden or on stilts above the inner lagoon. A dozen 130m2 villas complete the accommodation offer: 9 facing the sea with private pool and 3 on stilts. Colonial-inspired furnishings exude elegance and comfort, with waxed exotic wood floors, spacious bathrooms, large picture windows equipped with wooden shutters to regulate the entry of the beautiful lagoon light, and an old-fashioned fan.

What's for dinner? Three restaurants share the Constance Prince Maurice culinary offering: L'Archipel, Le Barachois and Asian. The main restaurant, L'Archipel, offers international and gourmet cuisine with, of course, a few nods to Mauritian and Indian Ocean specialties.

A lantern-lit pontoon floating above the mangroves provides access to one of the five canvas-covered pontoons that make up Le Barachois. It's the ideal place to dine on seafood and grilled fish under soft candlelight. For an aperitif or a nightcap, head to the Bar de la Lagune, the floating bar or the Lotus. Lounge atmosphere, of course, with live music around the pool and facing the lagoon. And let's not forget the wine cellar curated by Drôme Faure, a native of the Drôme region, with 25,000 references available at Constance Belle Mare and Constance Prince Maurice, a mix of New World and Old World wines.

The beach: on the lagoon side, the beach is a long strip of blond sand bordering transparent water.

At Constance Prince Maurice, the beach is also a place of luxury and service. No sooner have you noticed that your sunglasses need cleaning than a beach attendant appears at your side with everything you need to polish them. Beforehand, he'll have made sure your deckchair is angled just the way you want it and, of course, offered you a bottle of water and a refreshing towel. Until he comes to offer you fresh fruit and sorbets in the middle of the afternoon.

What about sports? The majority of water sports are available here. Hobby Cat, windsurfing, pedalos, kayaks, water skiing. All free of charge. A popular activity for children is a trip aboard a glass-bottomed boat to admire the coral reefs and underwater life of the lagoon. Other activities are available at extra cost: deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, Stand-Up Paddle, kitesurfing, boat cruises... Constance Prince Maurice also has two tennis courts and two swimming pools (one heated). The hotel also boasts two 18-hole golf courses of international standard.

The spa? A peaceful interlude in a world already bathed in calm and refinement, the Constance Prince Maurice spa features seven treatment rooms framing a swimming pool. One cabin also faces the lagoon, for massages directly on the beach. The program includes treatments from the Constance Spa Classics range and phyto-aromatic products from Sisley. In addition to the essential sauna, hammam and fitness room, there's also a thermal pool and a hairdressing salon. One of the finest spas in Mauritius.
