The 10 most beautiful spa hotels in the Alps

Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoe trekking… For lovers of snowy slopes, the Alpine resorts are an exceptional playground, especially as they are home to high-altitude cocoons with wellness areas for relaxing after the effort. Here’s a closer look at ten beautiful spa hotels in the Alps across Europe.

1. Les Chalets du Mont d'Arbois, Megève

The pitch? Les Chalets du Mont d'Arbois, an exceptional Megève hotel owned for almost a century by the Edmond de Rothschild family, is enjoying a breath of fresh air. On October 1st, the 5-star hotel in the Alps joined the Les Petites Maisons collection, the brand's second address (after Le Hameau des Baux in the Alpilles). This new, friendly luxury hotel concept was created by Guillaume Multrier and Aurélie Blanquart within the Beyond Places group (already at the helm of 7 hotels, including 3 in the Alps). The duo wanted guests to enjoy unique experiences in this iconic location, combining elegance, history and made-to-measure services.

Les Chalets du Mont d'Arbois - Chalet Alice

What's the hotel like? It comprises three chalets of traditional Savoyard architecture, named after the daughters of Ariane and Benjamin de Rothschild. Chalet Noémie, built in 1927, is the former family refuge, which can be privatized for a stay with friends or family. Chalet Ève, acquired in 1960, is the largest of the three and houses a reception, lounges, restaurants and spa. It can be privatized, as can Chalet Alice (converted in 2005), located a little further away. Each of these serene havens embodies a chic Alpine spirit, combining art, craftsmanship and design, punctuated by the owners' collectibles. Wood, large fireplaces and stone add to the homely atmosphere.

The spa? Conceived with design in mind, the Susanne Kaufmann spa fits perfectly into the hushed ambience of the Megève spa hotel. This oasis of well-being offers a complete pathway to relaxation and revitalization: heated indoor-outdoor pool, hammam, gym, and three cabins, one of which is a duo. Therapists deliver ultra-nourishing natural and organic treatments, using plants from the mountains, forests and plains of the Austrian Alps.

And the rooms? Most have balconies or terraces, allowing you to enjoy breathtaking views over the valley. Chalet Eve boasts 25 elegant rooms, whose sober furnishings evoke a contemporary version of the mountain spirit. More intimate, with 8 rooms and suites, Chalet Alice is decked out in brighter colors, playing the bohemian chic card. A private dining room and a large living room with fireplace are ideal for privatization. There are also two private treatment rooms and a hammam. Chalet Noémie has 7 rooms and suites, including a 140 m² room with Jacuzzi.

The restaurants? On the gastronomic front, the hotel is also preparing to write a new page with Âme, Amélie Darvas' ephemeral table. The chef will be showcasing plant-based dishes, sprinkled with Savoyard notes. Nearby, the Taverne du Mont d'Arbois, with its alpine decor, offers a menu featuring Savoyard specialities and lake fish. For a snack or gourmet aperitif, the Pizzeria de la Taverne showcases transalpine cuisine cooked over a wood fire, from pizzas to gratins.

2. Le Chalet d'Adrien, Verbier

The hotel? 1h30 from Lausanne, perched at an altitude of 1500 m in the Val de Bagnes, Verbier boasts an exceptional ski area (400 km of pistes), making it one of the world's top winter destinations. Perched on a south-facing slope, Le Chalet d'Adrien, a luxurious refuge overlooking a magnificent Valais panorama, boasts typical Swiss architecture. Dressed in wood, this cosy cocoon is punctuated by antique furniture, vintage, contemporary and mountain objects, books, posters and photos. Imagined as a guest house, the luxury hotel in Switzerland features 29 rooms and suites, decorated with antique furniture and precious textiles. At La Table d'Adrien (one Michelin star), chef Sébastien Lombardi offers gourmet cuisine inspired by his native Italy. But he also oversees Le Grenier, a more traditional restaurant, where you can sample dishes with a touch of the terroir.

The spa? In addition to steam rooms, saunas, Jacuzzis, sensory showers and a magnificent 16 m long swimming pool, this haven of serenity offers treatments in partnership with the Clarins brand. Based on natural ingredients, they promise absolute relaxation. In addition, the infratherapy session (exclusive to the resort) allows the body to absorb the energy of the long infrared rays diffused by the dome, facilitating recovery.

Owned by the Les Étincelles group, the Hotel Carlina with its traditional architecture blends wood and mineral. The Savoyard spirit is also present in the 46 rooms, most of which have a terrace to enjoy the exceptional panorama. 5 6-bedroom apartments and 3 luxury chalets complete the range of accommodation on offer. 4. Posthotel, Achenkirch, Austria

The hotel? In the heart of the Tyrol, in the Karwendel nature reserve, this 5-star Austrian hotel is not for seasoned skiers who want to hit the slopes from morning to night. Only 26 km on the panoramic Christlum ski area and 59 km on three surrounding ski areas. Its enthusiasts prefer to put on cross-country skis or snowshoes to explore the many marked trails (including loops for walkers). Owned by the Reiter family for four generations, this 142-key, adults-only luxury resort is designed as an energizing oasis that has been committed to sustainability for years. The interior design blends local Tyrolean style with the Japanese aesthetic concept of wabi sabi (which emphasizes simplicity, naturalness and rusticity), creating the perfect environment for rediscovering serenity. The gourmet restaurant promises authentic culinary flavours, with dishes featuring produce from the estate's own farm.

The Posthotel, Achenkirch, Austria

The spa? It has been imagined as a 7,000m2 sanctuary of well-being, where three worlds are juxtaposed: the Atrium Spa with Alpine treatments and treatments, the Aquatique with various pools and the yin-yang pool, the sauna area. A center dedicated to traditional Chinese medicine and its TCM Tenzo restaurant, as well as areas for practicing Qi Gong, yoga and Tai Chi complete the offer of this hotel spa in the Alps.

5. Hotel de LEN, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy

The hotel? In the heart of the Dolomites, in the resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo, the historic Hotel Imperio has been completely revamped by the Venetian firm Gris Dainese, inspired by nature, rurality and the quest for sustainable well-being. Now called LEN, which means wood in Ladin (a language still spoken locally), this 4-star hotel, where wood is omnipresent, belongs to the Italian San Domenico Hotels group. Its 24 soberly designed rooms and suites feature "biocompatible sleep" bedding with electromagnetic wave filtering. At the Alpine spa hotel's restaurant, Michelin-starred chef Andrea Ribaldone tells stories of the land and the mountains. Already a favorite with the Italian jet set, this virtuous refuge is an excellent HQ for hurtling down the 120 km of pistes in the ski area, which will host the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics in February 2026.

Hotel de LEN, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy

The spa? On the roof, on the 6th floor, this soothing bubble is flooded with light through large bay windows. On the program: steam baths, ice fountain, sensory showers, salt sauna and Finnish bath, outdoor whirlpool and a range of relaxing, regenerating and detoxifying treatments. Also on the menu is a "private night spa" experience involving all 5 senses (including a 50-minute duo treatment and champagne dinner).

6. K2 Chogori, Val d'Isère

The hotel? The latest addition to the K2 Collections group, owned by the Capezzone family, this 5-star hotel is one of the finest addresses in the sporty Val d'Isère area. Blending mountain authenticity, sleek design and noble materials (wood and stone), it exudes an elegant atmosphere inspired by Himalayan peaks. In addition to its name (K2, a peak culminating at 8611 m on the Chinese-Pakistani border, and Chogori, which means "big mountain" in the Tibeto-Burmese language), objects reminiscent of Tibetan codes and inscriptions in Sanskrit are distilled here and there. The 21 rooms and suites (including two penthouses) resemble luxurious alpine cocoons, where brushed wood cohabits with local craftsmanship. TheAltiplano restaurant offers sharing cuisine with Peruvian specialties.

The spa? After some crazy descents, head for the Goji Spa, named after the delicate berry with its many properties. Jacuzzi, hammam, sauna and laps in the 12 m pool precede a Nescens snow ritual in the cabin. Swiss cosmeceuticals help repair skin damaged by the cold and relieve overworked muscles.

7. Schloss Elmau Luxury Spa Retreat & Cultural Hideaway, Germany

The hotel? Nestled 100 km from Munich in the Bavarian Alps, facing the imposing Wetterstein massif, this resort owes its fame to the G7 summits it hosted in 2015 and 2022. Comprising two hotels set in the immense park, this 5-star resort is aimed more at cross-country skiers (with its vast network of marked trails). But downhill skiers will find what they're looking for just a 10-minute drive away in the Garmish-Partenkirchen area. Our favorite, the original resort built in 1916, hides behind Bavarian architecture elegant interiors where period charm rhymes with modern requirements. The rooms and suites, adorned with Indian and Indonesian furniture and sometimes Chinese antiques, exude a gentle tranquility. For dining, there's a choice of restaurants, including the double Michelin-starred Ikigai. This spa hotel in the Alps is also a cultural haven, hosting over 200 classical and jazz concerts and literary gatherings.

The spa? An incredible range of treatments. The hardest part is choosing between the 3 spas for adults (4 pools, oriental hammam, Japanese onsen) and the 3 spas with pools for families. The treatment menu is equally extensive, including ancestral holistic rituals. Yoga retreats are regularly scheduled.

8. Hotel Mont-Blanc, Chamonix

The hotel? A temple to mountaineering since 1849, Chamonix is not a ski-in/ski-out resort. True, it offers an exceptional ski area within easy reach of the gondolas, but some consider it a little too urban. However, there are a few addresses that are well worth a visit, such as the mythical 5-star hotel that welcomed the European aristocracy in the 19th century. Owned by the H8 Collection group, the Hotel Mont-Blanc retains the elegance of the palaces of yesteryear (Art Deco staircase with mosaics and wrought-iron railings, moldings, marble fireplaces). These assets have been enhanced by recent renovations by interior designer Sybille de Margerie. As with the 40 revamped rooms, the new 100m2 penthouse suite, which opens onto the sky, combines contemporary design with local influences. In the Matafan's kitchen, Mickey Bourdillat cooks up recipes that reflect the seasons, from the Alps to the Mediterranean.

A private spa suite at the Hôtel Mont-Blanc

The spa? Away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world, the 250m2 Clarins spa lets you let go. On the program: sauna, hammam, indoor-outdoor pool, outdoor heated Jacuzzi and treatments in one of three cabins. Therapists deliver the brand's rituals, using products with formulas concentrated in plant extracts and essential oils.

9. The Comodo Bad Gastein, Austria

The hotel? Perched at an altitude of 1,000 m in the Austrian village of Bad Gastein, the former sanatorium dating from the 1960s has been transformed into an alpine refuge by designer Piotr Wisniewski and architect Barbara Elwardt of Berlin-based weStudio. The duo kept the sixties spirit of the premises, accentuating the Austrian character with wood panelling, and multiplying mirrors and sconces to play with the codes of Viennese cafés. A mid-century aesthetic, where works by emerging artists rub shoulders with original terrazzo floors, tapestries, engravings and unique wall motifs. The result: a perfect balance between creativity and nature, right down to the 70 rooms with their panoramic windows. The bar-restaurant, with its motto "from farm to plate", combines local produce with a contemporary vision. This design address opens onto several slopes, linked to the huge Espace Salzburg Amadé Sport World ski area.

The Comodo spa hotel in Austria

The spa? It revolves around the old stainless steel swimming pool, modernized with ceramic tiles and suspended spherical lights. Treatments in the five cabins feature Saint Charles products, combined with the healing properties of Gastein thermal spring water (mineral-rich, anti-inflammatory and analgesic). Benefits that attracted royalty as far back as the 19th century.

10. The Capra Saas-Fee, Switzerland

The hotel? In the Swiss Alps, close to the Italian border, the car-free resort of Saas-Fee offers fabulous panoramic views of some 4,000 mountains, enticing guests to take to the slopes. Combining the luxury of a 5-star hotel with the warmth of a mountain chalet, The Capra owes its name to the local black and white goats, whose colors embody the philosophy of the Alpine spa hotel: yin and yang, harmony between man and nature. Furs, plaids, wool and wood accentuate the cocooning feeling that emanates from this hotel of 38 rooms and suites with views. The same atmosphere can be found in the stone bathrooms, which reflect the mineral colors and textures of nature. At Brasserie 1809, each dish celebrates an ingredient sourced from within a 150 km radius, from sustainable production.

The Capra, Saas Fee, Switzerland

The spa? Based on a holistic approach, the Peak Health Spa boasts a wide range of facilities: sauna, steam room, salt therapy room, foot hydrotherapy, multi-sensory showers, indoor and outdoor pools, yoga mind-body studio and three cabins. Therapists provide treatments based on organic and plant-based active ingredients, including propolis, honey and essential oils sourced mainly from the nearby mountains.
