The finest golf hotels in Mauritius

Work on your swing amid lush tropical vegetation. Whether you’re an amateur or a pro, you can make this dream come true in Mauritius, where golf courses with top-of-the-range facilities are integrated into prestigious resorts. Here’s a closer look at the five finest golf hotels in Mauritius.

1. Hotel Long Beach Mauritius, golf hotel on the east coast

The setting? The story goes that one morning, an early-morning golfer saw a pink flamingo invite itself onto the Ile aux Cerfs green, a poetic sign that the Long Beach Mauritius is an ode to sport and dreams. Nestled on the east coast of Mauritius, this 5-star Sunlife hotel stretches along the sublime Belle Mare beach (the longest and widest stretch of white sand on the island), an immaculate shoreline bordered by a crystal-clear lagoon. The architecture is in stark contrast to exotic standards, with clean design, contemporary lines and raw materials blending elegance with lush nature.

The facilities? The 255 brightly-colored rooms and suites, all open to the horizon, offer rare comfort, with beds fitted with memory foam mattress toppers and spacious bathrooms. Facing the ocean, they offer easy access to the white-sand beach, tropical gardens and swimming pool. The beating heart of the golf hotel in Mauritius? A convivial piazza, surrounded by bars and 5 restaurants with flavours from around the world, from refined Hasu sushi to sunny Sapori dishes. And on the relaxation front, the Glow spa reinvents well-being with rituals inspired by Mauritian traditions, combining wood, volcanic rock and water features to create a naturally serene atmosphere. Turkish hammam, traditional hammam and open-air relaxation lounge under native trees invite you to relax.

Between impeccable fairways and breathtaking panoramas, golf enthusiasts can enjoy restaurants and beach bars in an idyllic setting off the east coast of Mauritius. With green fees available on two of the island's top championship courses, guests at Le Long Beach enjoy an unrivalled golfing experience. A free, scheduled shuttle service takes them to perfect their swing at the Golf Club de l'Île aux Cerfs and the Golf Club d'Anahita. A paradise for swinging in the face of infinity.

2. Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort

The setting? In the south-west of the island, in the heart of Domaine de Bel Ombre, this 5-star hotel, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, stands on the sugar estate of Irish botanist Charles Telfair. The colonial architecture of this golf hotel in Mauritius is reminiscent of the great planters' houses. Spread over twenty villas with 6 to 8 rooms, the 158 suites play out a typical Mauritian symphony in shades of beige, cream and almond green. High paneled ceilings, light-colored walls and wooden floors embrace four-poster beds, planter chairs, meridians and rattan armchairs. And to accentuate the Compagnie des Indes style, mantling and louvers let the light flow through as the hours go by.

The facilities? When it comes to gastronomy, the spa hotel in Mauritius offers a varied culinary journey: the brasserie-style Annabella's (a tribute to Madame Telfair), the Gin'Jaà with its pansatian cuisine, the Mediterranean-inspired Palmier, and the historic Château de Bel Ombre for a gourmet dinner. To round off the evening, the Cavendish bar is the place to be, with jazzy music playing in the background under the armored ceilings.

The golf course? Nestled alongside a UNESCO biosphere reserve, the Heritage Golf Club (ranked in the top 100 golf resorts worldwide by Golf World) is the only 45-hole destination in the Indian Ocean. It boasts two championship courses hosting the DP World Tour.

Designed ten years ago by South African architects Peter Matkovich and Hayes on a hundred hectares of land, the Château Golf Course is an 18-hole PAR 72/6498m course. Fairly technical with its omnipresent mangroves, it is playable by all golfers with its wide fairways and five different tee options on each hole. Once again, it was voted best golf course in the Indian Ocean at the World Golf Awards in late 2023. Exceptional facilities complete the set-up, including the Golfzon Leadbetter Academy with its putting green, putting course, 9-hole PAR 3 short course and night-time option.

But since December 2023, seasoned golfers have preferred La Réserve Golf Links, the area's only contemporary course, designed by champion Louis Oosthuizen and Peter Matkovich. In addition to its panoramic views, it offers a difference in altitude (almost 200 m) between the summit and the aesthetic clubhouse. With elevated or sloping tees and greens, flowing fairways and wide bunkers, this new 18-hole course will test the strategic sense of even the most experienced players. Daunting, but not insurmountable! 5,649 m of yellow balls, 6,035 m of white balls, depending on skill level. The only drawback is the wind, which is likely to play spoilsport and spice up the action!

3. Hotel Ambre

The setting? Perched on the east coast of Mauritius in the heart of a lush natural setting, this adults-only establishment rolls out its 700-meter long ribbon of white sand against a turquoise sea, like a tropical mirage. This 4-star hotel, part of the Sunlife hotel group, offers its guests a castaway's lifestyle in a world of luxury occupied by a team of attentive staff always ready to serve.

The facilities? A 735-square-meter infinity pool with panoramic ocean views. The 297 keys, nestled in the gardens, play the card of simple refinement: a cameo of whites and earthy tones, bright touches reminiscent of the surrounding tropical flowers, and always that golden light that caresses the terraces open onto the ocean. At hotel Ambre, everything flows seamlessly. The All-Inclusive concept takes on a new dimension: premium drinks, a gourmet menu, constant attention without ostentation. From the watermelon granita offered on arrival to dinners under the stars at La Plage, every moment seems designed for pleasure. Indigo, the main restaurant, celebrates Mauritian culinary diversity with dishes blending Creole, Indian and Asian influences. Dolce Vita, on the other hand, plays the part of a seaside trattoria, serving homemade pasta and wood-fired pizzas.

Golf? And then there's the golf course. The 18-hole Île aux Cerfs course, designed by Bernhard Langer and free for guests, is a marvel suspended between lagoon and mangrove swamp. Every shot is between awe and challenge, so spectacular is the championship course's setting. Some golfers even claim that it's hard to keep your eyes on the ball, so mesmerizing is the landscape. But after all, isn't that the greatest trap of all?

A fitness center, spa, kids' and teens' club, tennis courts and a wide range of sporting activities add to the lagoon swimming experience. But the must is the golf course nestling between land and sea.

anahita Golf

The golf course? Designed by South African champion Ernie Els, with wide fairways and five sets of tees, this 18-hole PAR 72 of 6,828 m meets USGA standards. It offers a spectacular finish with six ocean-facing holes. With a grass driving range featuring numerous stations, chipping and putting greens, the site is ideal for improving your game (the Academy provides a computerized analysis of swings). A GPS-equipped buggy with a pyramid of 55 practice balls, clubhouse, lessons and clubhouse add to the golfing experience.

The setting? On the east side of the island, along a beach protected by a coral reef, the Constance Belle Mare Plage, surrounded by lush vegetation, combines tropical charm with contemporary luxury. Golf? The 140-hectare resort boasts two 18-hole courses. The Links Golf Course, designed by Peter Allis and Rodney Wright, is a PAR 71/5942 m with technical slopes and water hazards on holes 13 and 14. Advanced players will prefer the Legend Golf Course, designed by South African Hugh Baiocchi. Narrower, this PAR 72/6018 m is a real challenge, with fairways laid out in the heart of the forest and formidable putting greens. Both offer the usual golfing amenities.
