The best 4-star hotels in Haute-Savoie

From the lakes where you can dive to the peaks where you can slide, Haute-Savoie is a great place to get away from it all, whatever the season. Whether you’re looking for sport, relaxation or gourmet delights. Our selection of the best 4-star hotels to stay in Haute-Savoie.

1. Hôtel La Verniaz, 4-star hotel in Haute-Savoie, Evian-les-Bains

Although this soon-to-be century-old Haute-Savoie institution joined the prestigious EvianResort, a hotel near Lake Geneva, in 2021, Hôtel La Verniaz has preserved its irresistible charm, starting with its unmistakable Chablais identity. Situated a stone's throw from Evian on an estate overlooking Lake Geneva, the hotel was originally a traditional farmhouse, which has been enhanced over the decades by a series of grandiose improvements. Today, La Verniaz comprises several buildings (the Closerie, the Grand Hôtel and the chalets) nestled in a vast wooded park, ensuring calm and serenity for guests - whatever the season. Designed to be a 360° place to live, this 4-star hotel in Haute-Savoie offers a fitness area, tennis court and heated outdoor swimming pool, as well as the ideal green setting for oxygenation.

When it comes to dining, guests have two options: the Bistrot de la Verniaz with its gourmet yet refined menu, featuring seasonal produce and the best local suppliers (La Ferme du Noyer in particular); and Chez Auguste, appreciated for its table d'hôte atmosphere on the terrace or around the fireplace, where you can enjoy simple dishes that bring instant happiness: raclette, wood-grilled prime rib... And let's not forget the Chez Suzanne bar, or La Potinière, the extraordinary garden that extends from the Bistrot terrace.

The rooms: Housed in the two main buildings, the 35 rooms and suites offer a wide choice: with or without balcony, some have a view of the lake or even a terrace. Spacious, they happily integrate architectural evidence of the past into an elegantly classic decor. As soon as you step inside, you're overcome by an incredible feeling of comfort and softness.

Favorite: The six chalets, of course! They offer a priceless sense of intimacy in a little cocoon of Savoyard authenticity... while benefiting from La Verniaz's top-of-the-range services.

*As the Bistrot is currently closed, guests are invited to visit the Hôtel Ermitage restaurant, just a few minutes' walk away, or to take a complimentary shuttle service to dine in one of the Casino d'Évian restaurants.

2. Hotel Mont-Blanc Megève

Is it still necessary to present this jewel of Megevan architecture, which once served as the setting for the film Les Liaisons dangereuses (1960) starring Gérard Philipe and Jeanne Moreau? An archetypal high-altitude establishment, this 4-star Megève hotel will never cease to seduce. Among other qualities, it boasts a major asset: a privileged geographical location in the center of the village of Megève. Added to this is its warm ambience, the signature of Jocelyne Sibuet (co-founder, with her husband, of the Maisons & Hôtels Sibuet group), who has taken on the challenge of giving the premises an arty, chic touch, without obliterating the Alpine spirit. The Pure Attitude Spa offers a different concept: immersion in the heart of snowy, downy whiteness; a silky cocoon of well-being where wellness areas, an indoor pool and a sauna gently recharge batteries.

The rooms: Chalet atmosphere, light or blond wood, antique furniture and a cocooning atmosphere... From 29 to 44 m2, each room or suite has its own personality in keeping with the Mont-Blanc spirit: everything here is a question of harmony, from the smallest detail to the overall vision. When it comes to vision, we love the balconies (in Club, Prestige, SuitesJunior and Signature rooms) and terraces (in Club, Prestige and Suite Signature rooms) offering panoramic views of the village or the mountains: Mont-Blanc, Mont d'Arbois, Rochebrune, Mont Joly..

Hotel Mont-Blanc @Tristan-Shu

Favourite: Les Enfants terribles champagne bar, with its thematic decor based on the poet and illustrator Jean Cocteau, once a guest at the Mont-Blanc Megève. A good prelude to a meal at the Relais Mont-Blanc, where you can sample cuisine dedicated to the Alps, including exquisite antipasti from the Valle d'Aosta.

3. Auberge du Bois Prin, Chamonix

Located at the foot of Mont Blanc, Emmanuel Renaut and his wife's Chamonix establishment has everything to delight lovers of wide-open spaces and mountain walks. It's a privilege to set down one's suitcases in this traditional chalet bathed in light: only eleven rooms and suites have been fitted out, giving guests that rare feeling of being a happy few. This feeling continues when you indulge in a moment of relaxation in the wellness area of this 4-star mountain hotel (accessible free of charge to guests), with its sauna, outdoor Storwatt hot tub and view of Mont Blanc: ideal for recovering from a day of sport before a cosy evening.

The rooms: In taking over the Auberge du Bois Prin in 2020, the Renaut couple renovated this 1976 establishment without betraying the building's character. In fact, the opposite is true: the warm, protective chalet feel is enhanced by the use of wood elements, from exposed beams to pine walls and rustic-chic furnishings. The rooms and suites exude a soothing fragrance of authenticity and discreet, timeless elegance, blending divinely with the extraordinary panorama facing them. In particular, the Mont-Blanc, which can be enjoyed to the full, even more so if you have a balcony. With such a tête-à-tête, it's easy to become contemplative.

Favourite: How could you not succumb to the culinary delights of Emmanuel Renaut (MOF 2004 and 3 Michelin stars for Flocons de sel in Megève)? Dare we say it, it's one of the reasons to stop off at the Auberge du Bois Prin. Headed by chef Quentin Veyrat, the restaurant offers local menus from Wednesday to Sunday, and a terrace with a breathtaking view of Mont Blanc. Simply irresistible.

4. Abbaye de Talloires

In Haute-Savoie, the immensity of Lake Geneva should not mask the existence of a considerable number of lakes. Starting with Annecy, whose peaceful shores are home to some very fine addresses, particularly in the bay on the eastern side, such as the Abbaye de Talloires. This 4-star hotel in Haute-Savoie boasts some of the region's most splendid scenery, as well as a thousand years of history: its foundations date back... to 1018. Over the centuries, a small chapel became a priory, then a royal abbey. Transformed into a prestigious hotel in the 19th century and listed as a historic monument in 1944, the Abbaye de Talloires counts Cézanne, Mark Twain and Charles Aznavour among its illustrious visitors.

Recently renovated, the hotel has retained its cachet and the taste for excellence that has made its reputation over the centuries. Two waterfront restaurants, one gourmet run by Yohei Hosaka; the other bistronomic, open for lunch, will enlighten your taste buds. What they have in common is that they source their herbs from the Abbey's vegetable garden, whose paths you can stroll. Last but not least, there's the rooftop spa, complete with fitness room: a total of 200 m2 dedicated to relaxation and fitness, with unlimited access for guests.

The rooms: with views of the bay, gardens, village or cloister, the rooms, superior rooms and suites offer that priceless feeling of being at home. Is this due to the faultless design of the sober decor, which is always subtly adapted to the ancient, listed volumes or to the more contemporary spaces? Beautiful materials, absolute comfort and top-of-the-range amenities are the final convincing touch: we're staying in a monument!

Favorite: Jean Reno is one of the hotel's shareholders; when he's not visiting, you can book his favorite suite. Or Cézanne's, if you prefer painting.

5. Chalet-Hotel La Marmotte - La Tapiaz

When you're looking for the ideal winter sports accommodation, one criterion quickly stands out as being as decisive as comfort, price or the quality of the services on offer: proximity to the slopes. Thanks to its privileged location in Les Gets (Portes du Soleil), La Marmotte meets this complex equation; the establishment also knows how to pamper its guests with its three restaurants (the altitude restaurant La Paika; La Pivotte oriented towards regional and cheese specialities; the brasserie La Biskatcha) and its tapas and cocktail bar Semba. And let's not forget the Cosy Bar, a large lounge with a fireplace. Or the Séréni-cimes spa, housed in an old chalet and boasting a hydrotherapy area well worth the detour.

Rooms: The main chalet has 48 rooms and 7 suites (130 m2 for the largest), decorated in a cosy, vitamin-filled spirit, with light woodwork and luminous tones of fabric or wallpaper. The range of accommodation is rounded off by an irresistible collection of small, independent chalets located close to the spa: La Tapiaz. Luxurious cocoons with the most exquisite comforts, they offer an alternative to a classic high-altitude stay, combining the best of individual rental with all the advantages of a 4-star Haute-Savoie resort. Tempting to put down your suitcases.

Favourite: Definitely the lounge-bar facing the slopes, the ideal spot to meet up at the end of the day, or to warm up with a hot chocolate during the day, just like in a Christmas TV movie.
