The most beautiful hotels near Bastille

We know the Bastille for its lively bars, trendy restaurants, artisanal passageways and July Column. But what about its hotels? At the crossroads of four Parisian arrondissements, the district is also home to a number of hotels in Bastille that are perfect for putting down your suitcases. Our nuggets from an underrated area.

1. SO/ Paris, 9mn walk from Bastille

In the peaceful Arsenal district, a stone's throw from the UNESCO-listed quays of the Seine, the SO/ Paris is an unmissable addition to the right bank hotel scene. Housed in a 1960s concrete monolith rehabilitated by British architect David Chipperfield, this Bastille hotel boasts 162 rooms and suites where minimalism and homage to the Parisian spirit blend. Inside, every detail is a dialogue with the capital: a vaulted reception area adorned with terrazzo inspired by Parisian sidewalks, carefully selected contemporary artworks and an atmosphere that is both artistic and refined. The highlight of the hotel, quite literally, is on the 16th floor, with Bar Bonnie offering a breathtaking view of the capital's rooftops, from Bastille to Montmartre. The spectacle is breathtaking, especially at nightfall, when the twinkling lights are reflected in artist Ólafur Elíasson's light installation crowning the roof. The festive atmosphere rises to a crescendo in the adjacent club, with music and cocktails.

So Paris - The finest hotels near Bastilles

On the gastronomic side, Bastille restaurant Bonnie - popular with Parisians for its large bay windows and terrace overlooking the Parisian bridges - offers a menu with a French accent, in front of l'Île Saint-Louis. The décor, designed by Jordane Arrivetz of the Notoire agency, is inspired by the retro chic of the 1960s, with graphic carpets, chrome sconces and metallic touches. As for the spacious, elegant rooms, they echo the orange and bluish hues of the Parisian night, with their copper mosaics, blond-wood mini-bars and large panoramic windows. Meticulous details such as CFOC lacquer accessories and works by Thomas Fougeirol add an artistic touch. And for even more relaxation, head for the Codage spa, a soothing bubble nestled in the basement, with its 20-metre pool and tailor-made treatments.

2. Maison Bréguet, 7 mn from Bastille

Housed in a former laundry machine factory, this 5-star hotel presents a singular concept in eastern Paris: in addition to its 50 rooms and suites, the hotel in Bastille offers a 3-bedroom "Maison dans la Maison" with garden, designed for stays with family or friends. The boutique hotel's decor, orchestrated by London studio Sagrada, is reminiscent of French elegance, with refined contemporary touches: wallpapers by Pierre Frey, a plant wall, hand-crafted skylights and bespoke parquet flooring. But there's much more to this place than its cosy, sophisticated rooms (some of which interconnect) and its pretty 115 m² home. A true hybrid living space, Maison Bréguet houses a Michelin-starred restaurant under a skylight, as well as a bar designed by serial restaurateur David Lanher. For your well-being, the intimate spa hides a swimming pool, sauna and hammam.
