The finest hotels and guest houses in the Dordogne
The Dordogne is a multi-faceted region with a wide range of attractions, making it one of France’s must-visit destinations. Here’s a closer look at the Dordogne’s finest hotels and guest houses, both charming and luxury.

Classified prehistoric sites, villages ranked among France’s Most Beautiful Villages, unspoilt landscapes, exceptional products such as Périgord truffles, foie gras and Bergerac wines… the region is home to a wealth of places to discover this land of nature and gastronomy. A selection of the finest hotels in the Dordogne.
1. Château de la Treyne | Relais & Châteaux luxury hotel in the Dordogne
The pitch? The former residence of the Marquis de Cardaillac, built in the 14th-century , this Relais & Châteaux has been sumptuously refurbished by the Gombert family, who have owned the property since the 1980s, into a 5-star hotel. Thanks to its idyllic setting and the region's many tourist attractions, Château de la Treyne is the ideal Dordogne hotel for a nature stay in this beautiful region.
The setting? The Château de la Treyne may seem an impressive historical landmark, but it's a warm and welcoming place to stay. Its location gives it a unique setting and view. Clinging to its rocky outcrop overlooking the Dordogne valley, Château de la Treyne seems to float above the river it dominates. It is surrounded by a large park with two ponds, a formal garden and century-old cedars. The 120-hectare private forest adjoining the château offers numerous paths for walks and hikes without even needing to take the car. Relax by the large heated infinity pool, after a game of tennis or a jog along the old letter carrier's path carved into the rock.
The rooms? A château atmosphere in the 18 elegantly styled rooms and suites, where every object seems to have been placed with particular care. Fabrics, heavy curtains and antique furnishings are a reminder of the medieval charm of yesteryear, while modern amenities ensure absolute comfort. If you want to feel like a prince or princess for a night, choose one of the rooms with comfortable four-poster beds. For family time, choose the Prison Dorée suite, named after its former role as the castle's prison! Located at the top of the 14th-century square tower, you'll be seduced by its 90m2 of stone walls overlooking the garden. Special mention must be made of the charm of the bathroom in the La Favorite room, with its mirrored wall, rounded golden bathtub and electric underfloor heating. A must for elegance and serenity.
The restaurant? This exceptional place wouldn't be complete without a table to match. Michelin-starred chef Stéphane Andrieux has been at the helm of the kitchen since 1998, turning it into a culinary institution. He trained with top chefs such as Didier Clément at Romorantin's Lion d'Or. Since he set down his knives at Château de la Treyne, he has revisited local cuisine with a subtle twist, playing on bitterness and acidity, as in this semi-cooked foie gras with spices, Picon jelly, baked apple marmalade and Granny Smith jelly. He also works with Quercy lamb, foie gras and poularde from Pierre Duplantier, which can be enjoyed by candlelight in the grand salon Louis XIII, impressive for its wood-panelled fireplace, coffered ceilings and warmly-colored tapestries. On the sweet side, there's no shortage of delicious desserts from pastry chef Marc: the petit entremet pear, roasted vanilla and ginger, or the chocolate Manjari, fleur de lait with melilot/tonka beans, and yoghurt sorbet.
Bonus tip? Weather permitting, from May onwards, we recommend settling down on the panoramic terrace overlooking the Dordogne. The view is sublime, and a magical, romantic moment is guaranteed!
Good to know? An agronomic gardener has been tending the vast vegetable garden since 2018, in an eco-responsible and self-sufficient approach to supplying plants and produce to the restaurant. The estate's chickens, acquired in 2024, are fed on organic waste collected in the kitchen. What's more, the establishment has its own beehives: you can leave with honey from the château if you feel like it.

Seduced by the typical stones of the northern Périgord region, the owners of this house left Paris to turn this former hamlet with several farmhouses into an ideal vacation spot. In Champagnac-de-Belair, the former oil mill dating from 1670, renovated as a hotel in 1969, has now been awarded 5 stars. 6. Côté Verger | Charming bed and breakfast near Bergerac
This blue-shuttered guest house exudes the infectious joie de vivre of its Dutch owners. All five rooms offer sensational views of the surrounding orchards. Our preference is for the Oriental room with its deep blue wall, but all the rooms are bright and elegant. If you prefer to sleep even closer to nature, you can set up in one of the two furnished tents in the mini-camping area surrounded by fruit trees (which provides six pitches in total). The house also offers a table d'hôtes for a dinner generously prepared with produce from the orchard or the surrounding area. Looking for something special? Refined decor, contemporary tapestries, antique furniture, colorful fabrics, stonework, exposed beams... each room has its own unique rustic elegance.
