What are the best hotels in the Champagne region, particularly around Épernay and Reims in the Marne? Good news if you’re looking to unwind for a weekend: there’s no shortage of quality accommodation in the region! Luxury hotels, charming guest houses, transformed châteaux – there’s no risk of running out of good addresses.
1. Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa (Champillon, Montagne de Reims)
A world-class 5-star hotel in Champagne, the Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa reopened its doors in 2018 after a major makeover following its purchase by Denise Dupré and her husband Mark Nunnelly, founders of the Champagne Hospitality group (Le Barthélemy in Saint-Barth, Champagne Leclerc Briant). The program includes a new, ultra-modern amphitheatre-like wing designed by Reims-based architect Giovanni Pace, overlooking the vineyards and featuring 47 rooms and suites as vast as they are luxurious. It's the feeling of space that dominates when you enter the hotel after a transfer from the Épernay or Champagne-Ardennes TGV train stations. Lobby, lounges, library, restaurants, terraces facing an immense horizon... all accentuated by Sybille de Margerie's decor, which blends pastel and acidic tones, classic accents with revisited damask and designer furniture.
The address is dedicated to champagne, of course, which can be tasted in the Fines Bulles lounge with its glassed-in cellar, admired through the window, and enjoyed on the electric bicycles provided free of charge to guests. But the Royal Champagne is best known for its immense spa, one of the finest in France. 1,500 m2 dedicated to well-being with myBlend and Clarins Precious, 25-meter indoor pool, Jacuzzi and outdoor infinity pool overlooking the UNESCO-listed Champagne hillsides.
In terms of gastronomy, Le Royal offers Michelin-starred cuisine by Meilleur Ouvrier de France Christophe Raoux, while Le Bellevue is a chic bistro with a bar and XXL terrace offering spectacular views. After being awarded the title of "Best Hotel in France" in 2019 by the readers of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveller magazine, the Royal Champagne was awarded the title of "Best Resort in Europe" in 2020. What more can we say?
The +: The immense spa, one of the finest in France.

2. Les Avisés (Avize)
If you're looking for an off-the-beaten-track address, as comfortable as it is charming, then Les Avisés is probably your ideal Champagne stopover. On the heights of Avize, a pretty little town a quarter of an hour south of Épernay, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs on the way to Aube, another weekend destination in Champagne, this hotel-restaurant, considered by Forbes to be an essential stopover in the region, proves to be a dream place to immerse yourself in the Champagne atmosphere.
Behind this discreet guesthouse (only 10 rooms, all unique and humorously named Tchin !, Salute !, Prosit !, Kampaï !....) lies a man, Anselme Selosse, heir to the champagne house left to him by his father in 1974. Choosing Les Avisés is therefore an opportunity to stay in an elegant 1820 bourgeois house, but above all to enter the fascinating world of a champagne house as discreet as it is renowned. The restaurant, under the aegis of chef Stéphane Rossillon (formerly of the legendary Maison Pic (3-Michelin stars in Valence, where he stayed for thirteen years), is considered one of the best in the area. And that's just as well.
The +: The charm of an intimate address associated with a legendary champagne name.

3. Château de Sacy (Sacy, Montagne de Reims)
On the northern slopes of the Montagne de Reims, less than 10 minutes by car from the Champagne-Ardenne TGV station, sits Château de Sacy, an elegant 19th-century building set amidst vineyards. The living room is a haven of intimacy in an enchanting setting.
Whether you open your window in the morning from one of the 12 rooms, sit out on the breakfast terrace or take a bike ride around the grounds, the vine is everywhere. Even in the Signature Effervescence spa treatment, featuring Gemology products, a French brand of mineral and natural cosmetics. As for well-being, there's a sauna, two outdoor Norwegian baths with panoramic views over the vines, and a yoga and fitness area. The icing on the cake is a bar with a modern, friendly decor, and a restaurant serving traditional cuisine with a twist.
The +: The style of an Art Nouveau mansion amidst vineyards.

4. Le 25bis by Leclerc Briant (Épernay)
Le 25bis by Leclerc Briant has opened on the prestigious Avenue de Champagne in Épernay, making it an ideal base from which to explore Champagne and the Champagne region. The house of Leclerc Briant, which produces champagne in its cellars and winery at the foot of the vineyards in the hills west of Épernay, has completely renovated this former 18th-century Champagne merchant's residence into a guest house.
Just 5 rooms, two of which are under the eaves, with sober, elegant decor typical of the French art of living, a lounge, a courtyard that serves as a terrace in fine weather, and a park, cultivate the atmosphere of yesteryear by striking a balance between period furniture (original floors, moldings, wallpaper from the Alsatian manufacturer Zuber, wooden printing plates listed as Historic Monuments) and designer pieces from Ercol or Carl Hansen & Son.
The +: On request, Le 25bis can host table d'hôtes and organize private tours of the estate.

Domaine Les Crayères is not just any Relais & Châteaux. This luxury establishment, the finest in Reims, regularly tops the rankings of the most beautiful boutique hotels in Europe or the world, according to luxury travel benchmarks such as Condé Nast Traveler or Travel Leisure !
It has to be said that the location has no shortage of assets: a château nestled in seven hectares of parkland on the edge of Reims, the former home of the Polignac family, a gourmet restaurant awarded two Michelin stars (Le Parc by Christophe Moret) and a wine list featuring no fewer than 600 champagnes! With its refined atmosphere, timeless elegance and impeccable comfort (with rooms averaging over 40m2 ), Les Crayères is a must in Champagne. A must for a romantic weekend or to celebrate a special occasion.
The +: Le Parc restaurant (2* Michelin), masterfully run by Christophe Moret, as well as Brasserie Le Jardin, the only Bib Gourmand in Reims.

6. La Chevalée (Hautvillers)
Hautvillers is well known to champagne lovers. It was here, for almost five decades, that the legendary Dom Pérignon lived, a monk at the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Pierre de Hautvillers who helped greatly improve the techniques for making this exceptional wine. It's in the heart of this charming village, perched 250 metres above sea level in the heart of the Champagne vineyards, that you'll find one of the region's most pleasant guest houses, La Chevalée.
Here, Cécile and Olivier Fedyk welcome guests in four spacious suites (La Rocinante, La Bucéphale, La Zingaro and L'Embelle, each around 45 square meters). Elegant decor, views of the surrounding vineyards and comfortable amenities (espresso machine, bathrobes and slippers, cast-iron or Jacuzzi-style bathtub) await travelers in the spacious rooms.
In terms of services, the owners offer their guests electric-assist bicycles for hire, so they can explore the region by bike, as well as horse stalls. Riders on the move would be well advised to choose La Chevalée as a stopover in the region. The New York Times and Figaro Magazine recommend the address. So do we.
The +: The feeling of being at home.

7. La Licorne Hôtel & Spa (Troyes)
This historic building houses a recently restored 5-star hotel. Located on the waterfront in Troyes, La Licorne Hôtel & Spa is the perfect place to discover the city of a thousand colors in a whole new light. A large garden resembling the main courtyard of a majestic château leads the way to the reception area. Inside, the contemporary Art Deco design imagined by interior architect Laurent Maugoust contrasts ingeniously with the house's past. The 34 rooms and suites are spread over 3 floors, each more chic than the last. In shades of white and taupe, the simple colors of these rooms are subtly accessorized with more distinguished furnishings. In some cases, with a view of the cathedral! A destination of choice, with the possibility of a drink at the Apothèque bar, where cocktails are accompanied by local spirits.
On the wellness front, you can visit the Spa Sothys, with sauna, hammam and sensory shower, and relax in the pool area after testing the Asian treatment menu. So there's plenty to make your weekend in Aube a pleasant one!

Every gourmet in France knows L'Assiette Champenoise, one of the 29 Michelin-starred restaurants. Founded in 1975 by Colette and Jean-Pierre Lallement, this prestigious address just a stone's throw from Reims, now continues under the aegis of son Arnaud, who has propelled it into the firmament of French gastronomy.
In addition to its third star in 2014 (the only restaurant to win the Michelin grail that year), the Assiette Champenoise is also one of the region's most luxurious places to stay. The 33 rooms and suites of this 5-star hotel offer space (from 35 square meters for standard rooms, up to 80 square meters for suites) and comfort in a modern decor. While the Lallement family's hotel is still housed in a beautiful bourgeois house with typical architecture, contemporary design is now in the spotlight.
