The latest addition to the Canarelli family, A Mandria di Murtoli reinvents island luxury through a singular vision: that of an estate where modern hospitality marries the authenticity of Corsican sheepfolds (“A Mandria” meaning “sheepfold” in the regional language).
The Pitch | A luxury hamlet in the heart of nature
Conceived as a natural extension of the Domaine de Murtoli and inaugurated at the end of June 2025, this high-altitude hamlet, nestled in the hills above Sartène and out of sight, combines country life, refined gastronomy and a deep respect for heritage. Here, every stone tells the story of a proud land, and every service reflects exceptional know-how. It's a rare retreat, where silence has taste, nature has style and simplicity has grandeur.
What's the hotel like?
A Mandria di Murtoli is not just another 5-star hotel in Corsica. More than a holiday resort, it's a village reinvented, set on a mountainside, where traditional sheepfolds have been transformed into charming cocoons. The raw architecture - dry stone, lauze roofs, discreet shutters - fades into the landscape, revealing it all the more. As for the interiors, they play on the contrast between rusticity and modern comfort, in a perfect mastery of discreet elegance.
The estate is at a crossroads: those of the ancient shepherds who walked these paths, and those of today's guests in search of deep-rooted luxury. At 600 meters altitude, the air is purer, the light brighter, and time is suspended. Guests come here to disconnect, savour, walk, read and contemplate. A Mandria offers nature-based experiences: hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding, stargazing, tastings and botanical walks guided by a local shepherd. But also more nautical activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking and aquagym in the sea, for an intense sensation of freedom.
Beneath the hundred-year-old olive trees, the A Mandria di Murtoli hotel restaurant invites you to enjoy an intimate and generous interlude. Reserved for guests, the Appuntamento restaurant offers Italian cuisine inspired by Mediterranean traditions, using produce sourced mainly from the estate or from carefully selected local producers. Sun-drenched fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs, fragrant oils, exceptional meats and cheeses... everything comes from a respected terroir, cultivated by the Domaine de Murtoli farm. In this discreetly charming setting, just thirty covers, brazier-style cooking and personalized service - including in the suites and gardens - create a unique sensory experience. Here, la dolce vita is savored on the plate.
What are the rooms like?
The ten rooms and suites of this boutique hotel, a blend of rural charm and contemporary touches, are spread across a main house that houses a duplex suite and four bedrooms. In addition, there are five converted former sheepfolds, three of which have their own private swimming pools, promising moments of absolute relaxation in the midst of nature. The architecture preserves the authenticity of the site, while inviting guests to take it easy: king-size bed, mineral bathroom, fireplace, terrace overlooking the maquis or Corsican mountains. Raw materials - wood, stone, linen - dominate, in a palette of natural, soothing tones. More than just accommodation, each room is an immersion in the Corsican art of living, where you wake up to birdsong and the scent of wild thyme.
What makes the difference?
More than a hotel, A Mandria di Murtoli is a manifesto for sustainable luxury. Every choice is guided by an assertive ecological conscience: food-producing agriculture in a short circuit, restoration of ancient buildings, active preservation of biodiversity in collaboration with Biotope, and support for local initiatives through the Endowment Fund for the Environment. Anchored in a 2,500-hectare estate of unspoilt nature, in the heart of the Ortolo valley, this confidential hamlet combines refinement and responsibility, with a deep respect for the Corsican soil.
