Our opinion of Son de Mar, a confidential gem in San Ciprianu

The pitch

The Son de Mar adventure began on a family plot of land owned by the Coll family. The idea was to create a hotel in Corsica on a human scale, anchored in its environment, respecting the soul of the village while offering a new upmarket proposition. And the gamble paid off! Inaugurated in 2022, the hotel will appeal as much for its architectural integration as for the unique experience it offers.

How's the hotel?

Nestled between the sea and the Corsican pine forest, Son de Mar is much more than just a hotel in South Corsica: it's an escape for lovers of beauty, calm and the essential. Located in San Ciprianu, in the commune of Lecci, the 4-star hotel cultivates a natural elegance, both raw and refined. Designed around three pillars - architecture, decoration and nature - Son de Mar reinterprets the codes of the island's hotel industry. Arches, vaults, clean lines, raw materials punctuated by Klein blue (a nod to the establishment's Catalan name): everything pays tribute to the identity of San Ciprianu, in a warm, contemporary atmosphere.

Ideal for a nature weekend in Corsica, Son de Mar also gives pride of place to well-being. To awaken the senses, the sea-view hotel has created a signature scent by Studio Aoiro: a woody fragrance with accents of Corsican pinewood, sold on site. A bespoke soundtrack, designed by Maison Sérieuse, extends this sensory immersion, between nature, memory and the sweetness of life.

Finally, nestled in a peaceful setting, the discreet, refined spa is reminiscent of a modern Turkish bath: hammam, heated pool and treatment rooms, everything is designed to help you let go. The Codage Paris brand is responsible for the rituals offered at this hotel-spa in Corsica. Special mention goes to the signature "Son de Mar" treatment, combining warm shells and enveloping gestures. A beautiful interlude after a day at the beach.

Open only in the evenings, the 100-cover restaurant offers a short, fresh, entirely homemade menu. On the menu: marine inspirations and Corsican touches - tahitian-style raw tuna, grilled octopus, lamb confit or chestnut-crusted bass. All in a casual chic atmosphere, to be enjoyed indoors or on the terrace. Adjacent to the restaurant, the Cave du Son de Mar showcases Corsican winemakers, with some 50 carefully selected wines. At dusk, the space becomes a cosy bar: house cocktails, planks to share, a hushed atmosphere under the wisteria in bloom. The spirit is the Corsican version of la dolce vita.

How are the rooms?

In the 30 rooms, including two junior suites, light filters delicately through the linen curtains in the bay windows, caressing the sand-toned walls and inviting itself onto the raw materials that tell the story of the Mediterranean without ever freezing it. The "Loggia" rooms feature private balconies protected by fine wooden screens, while the "Terrace" rooms on the upper floor offer a more unobstructed view of the gardens, with some offering a glimpse of the sea.

Comfort lives up to its promise: top-of-the-range bedding, beautiful bathroom with walk-in shower, discreet storage. Two PMR-accessible rooms complete the offer, designed with the same high standards of comfort and elegance. Everything here invites you to let go, in gentle luxury, without excess.

The room to book? The 43 m² Loggia Junior Suite, sleek and spacious, featuring a living room, bedroom and bathroom with walk-in shower, which opens onto a large loggia.

The adventure is just beginning. By 2026, the hotel plans to expand with 11 new keys. Nine new rooms, extending the spirit of the place.
